Daisuke Nakamura is a PhD candidate and SSH Fellow 2026 in the Computational Communication Science Lab and the Vienna Media Change and Innovation Lab, supervised by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Annie Waldherr and Univ.-Prof. Dr. Desirée Schmuck.
His dissertation examines the types, prevalence, audience engagement, and effects of edits (a particular genre of short-form video) about politicians on TikTok and YouTube Shorts, using a combination of qualitative content analysis, computational quantitative content analysis, and experimental methods.
He completed his Master’s degree in Communication Science (MSc, 2026) at the University of Vienna, and his Bachelor’s degree in Law and Politics (BA, 2024) at Kyoto University, Japan. Before starting his PhD, he worked as a student research assistant to Annie Waldherr, working on the PolarVis project and WHAT-IF project.
