Heleen Dekoninck is a PhD student at the School for Mass Communication Research (KU Leuven) under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Desirée Schmuck. Her research project focuses on the power of social media influencers in mobilizing young adults to get involved in pro-environmental efforts.

This PhD project blends with different academic fields by studying digital media effects, media psychology, political participation, and environmental communication. She also works as a teaching assistant for the Master’s courses “Research Designs in Communication Sciences” and “Expert simulation: Media Psychology” at KU Leuven.
